Race Design

This race is set up in sections to be completed in order. Each section will have points that can be skipped so you can met any cut off times that maybe in place.

The bike section will be on all different surfaces from pavement, mud hard packed trails, bushwhacking and gravel roads. Single track ridding can be expected. The boat section will start on the Yadkin River. Teams can bring any man-powered boat they would like to navigate. Portage may be required, portage wheels not encouraged. The trekking section(s) are set with points on natural features: hill tops, stream intersections, coves or at obvious trail intersections.

These are the oldest mountains in the USA so only the hardest rocks and terrain remain. How will you stack up?

This is a typical design however full race details for each race are given at the race start.

44-74+ miles

Bike distance will be 30-45 miles. The trek will cover 6-15 miles. The boat is flat water and covers 8-14 miles. You may consider skipping some CPs in order to have enough time to complete other CPs. Some CPs maybe mandatory in order to be an official finisher so read all directions on race day.

Navigation

MyTopo maps contain topographic lines, manmade features, and some trails. Other maps of the area can be used during the race. Maps of the Badin Lake area can be found online for both the national forest as well as the state parks in the area. The MyTopo maps and those given at check in are all that are needed to run the race. Some race check points for the race will be on a master map or pre-plotted points on the maps. Other points will require UTM plotting at 1:24000 scale to get them all.
