2012 North Carolina Adventure Race 

 
 
Teams of 1-4 outdoor athletes will mountain bike, trail run or hike, orienteer, climb and paddle in rugged corners of the Charlotte metro and nearby mountains.  For the shorter races, all you need are “sneakers, a bicycle and a smile.”   For the 26.2 hour epic race, you need to be able to suffer.  Are you ready?  

NCARS #1:  March 31, 2012.   US National Whitewater Center, Charlotte, NC.  Activities include whitewater rafting, flat-water paddling, climbing,  mountain biking, orienteering, and special challenges.  $70 per person for 4- hour race 9:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. Or $90 per person for 8- hour race 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.   

NCARS #2:  May 12, 2012.   Lake Norman State Park, Troutman, NC.   Activities include canoeing, mountain biking, trail running and orienteering.  $50 per person for the 5-hour race  12:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.  Or $70 per person for the 8-hour race  9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.  Group camping available Fri and Sat.
 
NCARS #3  The MYSTERY Event on JUNE 23,2012.  Details will be posted for 24 hours ONLY on May 23.  And that’s all we can say about that…
 

NCARS #4:  August 25-26, 2012.   Lake James and Tablerock Mountain area, Morganton, NC.   Activities include canoeing, mountain biking, trail running, rappelling, orienteering, and special challenges.  $160 per person.  26.2-hour epic race, 10:50 a.m.  Sat, Aug 25– 1:00 p.m. Sun, Aug 26.   

NCARS #5:  October 20, 2012.  US National Whitewater Center, Charlotte, NC.    Activities include whitewater rafting, flat-water paddling, climbing, mountain biking, orienteering,  and special challenges.  $70 per person for 4- hour race 9:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m.  Or $90 per person for 8- hour race 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. 

Pre-registration is required at Sport Often no later than 1 week prior to each event. 

How can I be faster? 

Train hard, with your teammates.  There is no other substitute.  Minimize objective risks, such as bike mechanicals, by making sure that everyone has maintained their bikes.  Practice all course elements.  Train using your race gear.
